In exploring the possibilities for gas ignition I have deconstructed the following BBQ lighter.

Typical trigger type gas BBQ lighter |
Deconstruction reveals that although the gas nozzle has been extended a similar design to a conventional lighter has been used. |
Here the trigger has been removed and the little black component with the pink end and white and black wires is the ignition source. |

The ignition source removed from the BBQ lighter. |
When the button on the oposite end to the pink cap is depressed a hammer inside the component strikes a piezo crystal creating an extremely high voltage. This generates a spark is between the bare ends wires if they are close enough. |
Upon testing this device over a gas stream I found that it was highly inconsistant in it's current form. At this stage we have deemed this component of the design unnecessary to develop as electronic ignition mechanisms are commonly available and there is no need to replicate common knowledge. So in short... we know it will work in the final application so we need not waste time trying to make it work now.
