Week 7 - Group Meeting

After class our group met to assess our progress and to see what work needs to be completed. A number of issues had also surfaced within both the Object and Senario Workshops.

In terms of the Object a major concern was the high burn rate of the candle (demonstrated here: Week 4 - Burning Candle At Both Ends) leading to a very high replacement rate. This makes the concept highly uneconomical for the user which could encourage the user to resent having ever bought the product.

In terms of the Senario major concerns surounded the use of a candle and how that would affect the feeling within the setting... will it put the user to sleep? Another issue came from the continueous movement that the product would produce and whether or not that would distract the user? My own understanding of the use of candles within aromatherapy is that there are different candles that will influence the recipient in a variety of ways. These areas will require more research so that we are able to justify our decisions.

It does however seem that we have settled on an idea of the behaviour and need to separate the elements into the key behaviours that we see as being crucial to the design. Reviewing the original concept (click here for initial concept video: Week 5 - Concept Presentation Burning the Candle at Both Ends...) in terms of the qualities present should give us insights into what it is that we believe we need to retain.

I'm gradually getting my head around how Object, Senario and Behaviour should work together. At this stage our original concept has been challenged within both the Senario and Object areas which is pushing our creative thinking significantly.
